What Kind of Flooring is Right for your Hospitality Venue?

April 15, 2015

Flooring can play a major role in establishing the style and atmosphere of any space, making it vital that you get it right in your hospitality venue. Keep the following factors in mind when making your decision.

Looks

Regardless of the type of venue, looks are obviously important, and your flooring can help tie all the elements of a space together, such as the art, furniture and colours of the room. Whether you are looking for vinyl tiles, carpet or another option entirely, embracing a consistent style throughout your venue will create a sense of flow and cohesion. For best results, avoid incorporating more than a couple of different styles or materials.

Comfort

If you want your guests to not just enjoy their experience but also to come back again in the future, you need to ensure that they are comfortable, and few flooring options can match carpet for comfort. Carpet provides warmth, support and a luxurious vibe that creates a relaxing atmosphere, making it ideal for just about any area. However, if your venue is in a particularly warm climate, cooler flooring options – such as tile or polished concrete – may be a better choice for common areas.

Cleanliness

Nothing is more important in the world of hospitality than cleanliness, and your flooring needs to set the bar high – the trick is choosing the right materials for the right areas. Vinyl tiles, planks and sheeting make great kitchen floors as they are extremely resilient and easy to clean.

Carpet, on the other hand, won’t cope quite as well with messy spills, but modular carpet tiles offer a versatile solution, as cleaning or replacing individual tiles is easy. If parts of your venue allow smoking, opt for a flooring option which won’t absorb the smoke and therefore the smell.

Soundproofing

Dining areas, bedrooms, kid-friendly zones and even conference rooms all require decent soundproofing, as do all of those hallways that run between them – consider wool carpet to be far and away your best solution. Wool has an amazing natural ability to absorb sound, which is why it is popular in venues such as concert halls and courts, and even a short pile wool carpet can make a huge difference.

Safety

All of your flooring should be designed with maximum safety in mind; otherwise, you may find yourself dealing with legal problems down the track. Areas that could get wet, such as bathrooms, kitchens, foyers and even dance floors, should be designed to be slip-proof – vinyl sheeting works extremely well. If parts of your venue are kid-friendly, plush carpets are a good idea, as this will provide a little extra padding for those inevitable falls.

Your flooring is often the first thing your guests will see when they enter your venue and it will play a major role in shaping their overall experience. If you need help finding the right floors for your venue, talk to the experts at Aussie Flooring Insights.
